Safety First, Last and Always

With our adoption of DuPont’s comprehensive series of workplace safety training programs, Bay Cities is meeting and exceeding the new standards for safety in the industry. The Safety Training Observation Program (STOP) instructs and reinforces safe work practices and helps to correct any unsafe acts or conditions. A safe manufacturing environment greatly reduces injuries and associated downtime, and also makes for a more productive and enjoyable place to work.

OEE, 5S+2 and Quality Assurance

We believe the quality of our work establishes Bay Cities as one of the best in the business. To achieve this, we’ve addressed the many complexities, challenges and x-factors that contribute to or stand in the way of delivering and maintaining quality. That’s why we constantly track Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), including machine availability and downtime, performance and output, and quality as determined by critical metrics.

We’re our industry’s leading advocate of Toyota’s famed 5S approach, and have actually evolved that highly effective system to meet the unique needs of our plant and our employees. We Sort (Seiri), Set in order (Seiton), Shine (Seiso), Standardize (Seiketsu) and Sustain (Shitsuke) every hour of every day. In addition, we’ve added a “+2” for Safety and Spirit, both of which ensure that we achieve the goals of 5S. We’ve also created a Visual Workplace in which anyone can know within seconds the who, what, when, how and why of a work area, without asking, opening a file drawer or book, or turning on a computer.
